A Campaign for Life

NOTE FROM THE

DIRECTOR

D E A R   F R I E N D,

The Perry Center is at the frontlines of an epidemic that has outlived most disease, financial crisis, and lifespan.  In our corner of the Midwest, the probability of you or someone that you know that has been affected by this epidemic is nearly 100%.  Friends, this epidemic I am speaking about is unexpected pregnancies and has affected generations of families.  Did you know that about 50% of all pregnancies across the United States are considered unexpected?  Did you know that about 50% of those pregnancies just mentioned end by abortion each year?  The majority of women that experience an unexpected pregnancy that is considering an abortion, often feel that there is a lack of support, financial uncertainty, and unaware of resources that promote a healthy life-affirming decision for their child.

Since 1986, The Perry Center has stepped into the lives of women experiencing an unexpected pregnancy by providing shelter, education, life skills, job training, counseling, budgeting, childcare, and much more to assist them in being the best mom that God has called them to be.  Our life-transforming program does just that, transforms life with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  By letting women know their stay is indefinite, we can ensure that they are obtaining their goals and preparing them to live a stable and healthy life outside of The Perry Center’s walls.

We exist, because of you!  The Perry Center is solely funded by individuals and businesses that value life and not by government organizations and tax-payer funds.  Your partnership allows a trained and equipped staff to serve whoever walks through our doors, a safe and enriching environment for our residents, life-on-life mentoring, healthy meals, transportation, education, empowerment, and more.

Thank you for partnering with The Perry Center and for impacting a generation.  Because of your generosity, she will know her worth, she will know that she is loved, and she will be transformed into the mom that God has called her to be.

In HIS Service,

When I found out I was pregnant, I was not making the best choices. I ended up being in prison for a month and a half, upon my release, I decided to go to treatment for 30 days to try and start to turn my life around for this child. Once I completed treatment, I had the option to parole to Florida, where my mom lived, or to come to The Perry Center. I decided to come to The Perry Center because it is where I believed, my life could truly change.

During my time at The Perry Center, my outlook on life has completely changed. I look forward to being this mom who loves Jesus and my daughter with her whole heart. I look forward to and find joy in the little things in life. The Perry Center has turned into my second family. Even though I have made mistakes, I know that I have a support system behind me that I can always turn to.

While there is a common misconception that those associated with the Pro-Life movement only care about the baby until it's born, at The Perry Center, we are striving to erase that misconception. The Perry Center Program aims to address the mother and baby as a whole. We understand that walking the journey of pregnancy alone is an overwhelming experience, flooded with emotion. The Perry Center walks beside the mom through the journey of their pregnancy and strives to be postnatal support going forward. Anything is possible when you have a village of support in your corner.

Tender Hearts Early Learning Program is a Quality Rated Program of The Perry Center. It was started in April 2013 by Pat and Darold Larson. Their dream was to have this childcare ministry provide an opportunity for The Perry Center residents to work with children to begin learning about parenting.

Finding quality, consistent childcare, as well as stable employment, are just a couple of the barriers that mothers face while dealing with an unexpected pregnancy. Thanks to Tender Hearts, we have been able to employ several residents, helping them get on their own two feet, as well as provide quality childcare for their children.

It is our dream to expand this program so that childcare would be more easily accessible to our residents, as well as our community. In the future, we would like to enable a scholarship fund for residents of The Perry Center as we expand, so they could continue building their foundation of a new life. In the meantime, we have created our Families Investing Into Families Grant which allows families of our Early Learning Program to apply for the grant to help if they have fallen on hard times and are needing a helping hand to get back on their feet. We see this as an opportunity to serve alongside our families uniquely and compassionately.

CHRIST-
CENTERED

At our core, we are all about ministry. Many of our activities, conversations, and teaching moments are focused on the truths found in God’s word. We consider it a joy and privilege to plant some of the first seeds of faith in the lives of young children in partnership with their families.

We recognize play as the foundation of all learning! Children learn best by digging in. The proof of their learning will be on their hands, arms, feet, clothing, and in their hearts and minds.

At Tender Hearts, we believe child-led learning arises out of the experiences, interests, and curiosity of your child. Our teachers support child-led learning by creating an environment rich with open-ended materials and many opportunities for discovery.

Who Stays at The Perry Center

The Perry Center serves young women ages 12-24 years of age. After 24, it is on a case by case basis where the woman would be interviewed and the situation would be assessed to see if it would be an appropriate fit.

How long can residents stay?

Upon the resident's arrival, we consider their stay here indefinite. We want to provide them with the opportunity for long-term success, and we believe that doesn't happen in just 30 days. They are allowed to stay here as long as they keep working towards the goals they have set, and have the confidence and secure housing, occupation, and child care to proceed with independent life. While they may go out on their own, we are always a source of support for the women and their children however long they may need us.

F A Q ' S

How do people find your program?

We receive referrals from man programs in our community. We receive referrals from:

  • WIC

  • Physicians

  • Social Services

  • Hospitals

  • Local Clinics

  • Churches

  • Homeless Shelters

  • Counselors from Treatment Centers

  • Jails

  • Placements from parents/guardians

How many residents do you have?

The Perry Center is licensed for up to 12 women. We currently have 6 resident rooms. While we cannot give an exact number of current residents for the privacy and safety of those staying with us. God is always bringing in more women to serve and that number is ever changing.

How are you funded?

We do not receive government funding due to the stipulations they have in place. To receive government funding, would require us to take out the piece that makes our organization different and able to radically transform lives, Jesus. Thanks to our generous supporters who believe in our mission and believe that Jesus needs to stay at the center of it, we can proudly say we are 100% donor funded.

What do my dollars support?

Your financial support helps the overall operation of The Perry Center and provides shelter, healthy meals, education, resources, mentoring, discipleship, life-affirming counseling, trained and equipped staff, and more to our residents!  Additionally, your financial support goes beyond our walls and supports families in need of baby items throughout the region, and allows The Perry Center to be a beacon of hope with the Gospel of Jesus Christ for all who we encounter.

How does Tender Hearts tie into The Perry Center?

Tender Hearts is an extension of The Perry Center and creates an opportunity for residents to volunteer, obtain employment, and provide a safe and nurturing environment for their children.  This connection allows long-term sustainable relationships to take root between residents and The Perry Center, which is key to their success and exposure to the Gospel.

We ask that you would pray. Pray over this ministry, pray for the women that we serve, for their children, and those facing an unexpected pregnancy. But most of all, prayerfully consider your gift and be listening to what kind of impact God is wanting you to make as you trust in Him.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

P R E P A R E   Y O U R   H E A R T

As you pray, ask God to prepare your heart for how He would like you to be involved with this ministry. When serving others, there is always time and preparation involved. Whether you are serving through time, labor, talents, or money, there is always preparations and in turn, sacrifice. To show someone true kindness or true support, requires sacrifice, so that God may be glorified through it.

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies - so that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

To experience growth requires a little bit of courage and a lot of faith. You are trusting God to use you for His kingdom. He will stretch you, and he will refine you for His glory. Once you step out of your comfort zone, that is when true growth happens. As you trust in God through all things, He will transform your heart and mind.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - His good, pleasing, and perfect will.
